Food Safety Quality Technician

The Role
We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Food Safety & Quality Technician to join our team at our Super Kitchen based at Awatoto, Napier. This role is responsible for supporting day-to-day quality control, internal audits, post-production assessments, and food safety compliance across the manufacturing operations at this site.
Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, this position plays a critical role in maintaining ZIWI’s high-quality standards and regulatory compliance. It also involves contributing to complaint resolution, risk management initiatives, and continuous improvement in food safety systems. As a member of the close knit Food Safety Quality team, you will have exposure to special projects, NPD trials, and plant-based verification audits.
Ideally you will have been in a similar role for a few years, be familiar with OMARs and e-certs, have a strong attention to detail, and want to make an active contribution to your team and the wider business. If this sounds like you – we want to hear from you!
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct daily product quality checks and verify production data integrity.
- Lead and support internal audits; participate in external audits and manage corrective actions.
- Coordinate product sampling and laboratory testing
- Investigate customer complaints, conduct root cause analysis, and contribute to complaint reduction strategies.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements (HACCP, RMP, OMARs) and internal standards.
- Support production teams in GMP monitoring, training, and food safety practices.
- Maintain quality documentation, chemical registers, and assist with supplier audit preparation.
Key requirements:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Food Science, Technology, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a food safety, quality, or technical role within the FMCG or food manufacturing sector.
- Strong understanding of HACCP, food safety regulations, and quality assurance systems.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
